Actor James Marsden, who is known for his role as Scott Summers or Cyclops in the first three X-Men movies, is the latest celebrity to purchase a home in Austin. The actor paid an amount of about $1.8 million for a five-bedroom, 5,160-sqaure-foot house in the Commons Ford area of the Texas city, according to the San Antonio Express-News

In late 2020, Marsden told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, the hosts of Live with Kelly and Ryan, he has been living in Austin in a rental home for several months. Marsden, who grew up in Oklahoma, told the hosts he loves the city and has been coming to it for 20 years.

"It's still got that small-town feel to it but it's definitely booming at the moment," Marsden said of Austin.

The Express-News reports Marsden bought a home that was built in 2007 and has 4-1/2 bathrooms, 7-inch ebony hardwood flooring throughout, and a fireplace in the living room. The1.07-acre property includes mature trees, a guest casita with a full kitchen and a Murphy bed, an outdoor shower surrounded by bamboo, and an IPE wood deck.

Marsden isn't the only celebrity attracted to Austin. Bennifer, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, rented a luxury condo in Austin when Affleck filmed the new Robert Rodriguez movie, Hypnotic, in September 2021.

In June 2021, the New York Times also published an article about three C-list (D-list?) Hollywood celebrities who traded California, specifically Los Angeles, for Texas, specifically Austin. The piece documented three wealthy white women — Glee actor Becca Tobin; Hillary Duff's sister, Haylie; and The Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn Sigler, all of whom are drawn to the Lone Star State for its "small-town hospitality and everyday conveniences."
